It all started on a trip to Kauai, where I would be out for my morning run and see multiple people running in sandals. It made sense, the climate in Hawaii is perfect for sandal wearing.

So I came back to the office and started digging through the archive. I stumbled across an old sandal called the Response - which in the early 2000’s, was a very simple running sandal that existed in the Teva collection. It had a really interesting stance, color story, and still looked rather modern, if if it was over 20 years old.

At the same time, I was digging into the sandal running market - of which was really small. Most of what was out there was barefoot running and the market did not depict where the rest of the running market was at - which was higher stack heights, rocker geometries, and better foam compounds. So I decided I need to change that! The white space was to modernize the running sandal for today!
